Can you replace the video card on a laptop?

I have a laptop with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS however everyone says its not good enough. So my question is, "Can you replace the video card on a laptop"? I can't find another one with a better video card for under $800. Besides I don't know much about GPU's and I don't know whats better.
