I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop can I upgrade the video card?

How do I know what to upgrade it with?

Mainly I just want to be able to play FSX, all my other hardware is better than the minimum system requirements, except the video card. Can it be upgraded?|||It's not so much the video card you need to worry about, it's your operating system. I spent £1500 on a machine that is solely for use for FSX, nothing else at all and I still struggle to get good frame rates and have no out of memory issues. I am having to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit (32 bit is no good) and having to instal 8GB of memory, so I doubt your laptop will handle FSX to be honest.|||Nope. It's built in, not upgradeable.

How do i check the video card of this laptop?

Win 7 32bit

pentium dual-core CPU T4300 @ 2.10GHz, 4,0GB RAM, Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

I want to know the video card of my laptop, but donno how. I`m trying to play DeathSpank|||On win xp, you can can go to start then run and type in dxdiag and click video on the window that pops up and it will tell you.|||Open START, then in search bar type: Device Manager. A window opens up, in it select Display adapters. Now you see just the name of the video card and its driver status.

To obtain full specs of your computer graphics card, go to START and in the search bar type "dxdiag", and click the dxdiag above. This launches the DirectX Diagnostic Tool which displays all PC built-in component specs. Inside this choose the Display tab (on top of the window). Now you can see your video card specs.

Hope this helps.

What is safest maximum temperature for my laptop and video card?

I have a G35S laptop with a Nvidia Geforce GTX460M video card.

This one : http://www.amazon.com/G53SW-XA2-Republic…

Thanks!|||80 is a pretty safe temp for both your GPU and CPU. The graphics card is going to run hot under load but it should be just fine as it is. I would not overclock my card if I were you though because you might reach unsafe temperatures. Even going into the 80s a bit would be okay. It's just best to stay around 80 because your graphics card will last longer than if it were reaching temperatures of 90+. So in short, you're safe!|||Graphics card max temperature is 100 degrees and processor is 70-75 so i think you are fine.

Which video cards will fit in my Dell Latitude D600?

I have a D600 with a Radeon 9000 video card and would like to upgrade. But laptop cards seem to come in several different configurations (i.e. physical dimensions) and I do not wish to disassemble my latitude to find out just yet. Can someone tell me which ones work with my laptop, and especially are the cards which will work in an Inspiron cross compatible?|||Laptop graphics upgrades are not normally possible as they are built in graphics, normally time to bite the bullet if needed. D610 is not that much of an upgrade but you may get a bargain as they are end of life, but the new D620 is a cracking machine.

External Usb Video Card for Laptops, Please Help?

So i want to increase the performance on my laptop for some gaming needs and some people suggested an external usb video card..

ive been lookin online a lil and am really confused.

can someone give me some examples or links to some good ones?

please & thanks|||Um...no. External USB video adapters are for nothing more than adding a quick and dirty extra display, nothing more. It will do nothing whatsoever to improve your performance.

Are the nvidia or ati video cards included with laptops removable and upgradeable or are they integrated?

When referring to a laptop, video cards are usually physically integrated on the mainboard even when they do not share memory & have their own dedicated RAM.

There are exceptions but very rare.

So ... to answer your question :

Almost always never removable or upgradeable.

regards,

Philip T|||Most are built into the mainboards!|||Most are removable but you may want to take the laptop with you to an electronic store if you are unsure|||nope they integrated u can increase the ram their using though but then that'll decreese the ram your computer uses but you'l ur video card will be better|||Some are technically upgradeable, but it is a very involved procedure and it will void your warranty.

Laptops and video cards?

if i got like a cheap laptop would i be able to upgrade it with a better video card like a nvidia if so what kind of laptop and video card|||No, No No, laptops have there graphic cards build into the motherboard. only way you could upgrade a graphic card on a motherboard is by upgrading the entire laptop. in other words, buying a new laptop with the graphic card you need...|||The Answer is No. The only laptops with upgradeable graphics cards are very expensive and even they aren't upgradeable very often anymore.|||In a nut shell, NO.

Notebooks generally do not have a "graphics card". They use a graphics chip hardwired to the motherboard.

How do we know if my laptop has tv-out video card?

i'm looking for a laptop which can plug in tv for movies. any suggestions or recommendation on laptops on this? what brand, what model has this feature? is it easy to find one with this feature under $1000? if the tv-out video card doesn't come with the laptop, how much does it cost to buy one and install it ourselves? is it hard to install it? what brand of tv-out video card is good?|||There wouldbe a port labeled TV out. Most laptops will not have this, there are also converter boxes that you can buy, you run a monitor cable off your laptop to the box then you can use an s-video cable or regular AV cables to connect to the tv, I'm sure there are HD versions out by now, but I've never looked for one.|||www.alienware.com will solve all ur problems|||why spend money on a laptop when you can get it for free? just go to this site and complete a few quick tasks and they'll send you a sony vaio laptop at no charge!

Where is a good place to go to download the most current device driver for my video card?

Where is a good place to go to download the most current device driver for my video card?

I have a toshiba A100-0FH laptop and need something that would be compatable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!|||You could try and go into Device Manager on your CP , then Update your driver from there , it should give you the most current driver or tell you if you have the most current driver.|||check what make your graphics card is an go to their website. They'll have a page somewhere.|||From Toshiba!

Can you install a video card onto an hp compaq nc6000 laptop?

Recently, I tried downloading a GEForce video card onto my laptop, but there is always an error saying that there aren't any drivers compatible with my current hardware when I try to install GEForce FX for Windows XP/2000. How do I fix this?|||What you need are drivers that ARE compatible with your laptop. The bes thing to do is go to compaq.com, find your computer by model number, and look for updates on that site.

You can also go to Microsoft's update site at

http://www.update.microsoft.com

There they will have updated drivers for your video card (if there are any available).

Is there any way i can upgrade a laptops video card?

i have a crappy compaq laptop. all i wanna do i play a game i got and now cant return ecause its opened.|||Generally, not. Most laptops have the video chipset built into the motherboard.|||it will be hard to find a graphics card if your laptop case even has room for it. most of them are somewhat custom to fit in the case unless you have a desktop replacement laptop then any mobility graphics card should work unless then your mobo doesnt support it. :-)|||What is the model #?

It may be possible.

But in all probability you will now have integrated graphics.

If you can add a card, not likely, it will be a pain as you will have to enter BIOS to activate it every time in order to use it if you now have integrated graphics.

The more RAM you have, the more that can be allocated to graphics that are integrated.|||Probably not i have a Compaq Pisario v2000 and it has an integrated video card. it is "non Operable"|||Video cards on laptops are built into the motherboard, they can not be changed.|||Some new high performance laptop and portable computer manufacturers are coming out with models that enable users to upgrade the video card or video accelerator it came shipped with. Unless your one of the lucky few who have one of these types of laptops or portable computer you will not be able to upgrade your video card.

If you are unsure if your laptop or portable computer is this type of computer it is recommended you contact the laptop manufacturer for additional information.|||if it is onboard (built into the mainboard) then no

This is something you should have considered before buying a laptop -- if you plan on gaming on it you wouldn't have bought a laptop without a dedicated video card.

Intel integrated graphic chipsets scrapes the bottom of the barrel in terms of graphic capabilities.

The only alternative may be an external GPU such as the Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO GraphicBooster (expensive though).|||No. You cannot upgrade a laptop's video card.|||nope

What kind of video card do I need for my HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop?

It is 5 years old. I recently bought a hard drive (b/c it crashed) and updated my RAM and now I'm getting vertical stripes on my laptop screen. I read it's because of the video card Is that the reason for the vertical stripes? if not then what is and how can i fix it???????????? i deserve a working laptop but not enough money to buy a new one.|||Sorry... that would have integrated graphics... there is no replacing the graphics without a whole new motherboard. Better off buying a whole new laptop. BTW, most laptops are integrated graphics, very very few have actual graphics cards.|||You can't simply sway the video card of a laptop yourself, but try to do a windows update to make sure your video drivers are updated.|||U cant upgrade it .Get a external graphics card.

Cheap Video Cards for Laptop?

I would like to know where I can get a cheap video card for my laptop. Preferably one that is at least somewhat cheap that can play games with high res. The one in my laptop right now can handle to play games but with very low res. and is bothering me. Also, I know quite a bit about computers, I've taken them apart, used parts from one to make another run better, and stuff like that but I've never really did anything like switch out a video card, so I also need to know what what else I need to get the video card working properly, like if I need a better power supply as well. People have told me to look on newegg.com but I feel that there's too many companies on there that are just starting out and their products are pieces of crap, and on top of that I don't know about what are really good brands or not. Make a long story short, I need a video card that can play high res games well, but won't break the bank if I were to buy it, I'm looking to spend maybe $100-170.|||The best thing you can do is update your video drivers. There's not much else you can do for most laptops.

Unless you've ordered the laptop with the card you wanted, you can't swap it out. Unlike Desktop graphics cards, which are limited only by available slots, Laptop graphics cards are hard to find, and even harder to replace.

Laptop GPUs are not cards at all, but GPU chips soldered into the motherboard (which is why the ones with dedicated cards are said to have "discrete graphics" and others have the built-in "integrated graphics" rather than having "cards"), so as are some of the CPUs - meaning you have to melt the metal solder to even take them out. Even then, it's not 100% that your motherboard will support the new card. This is the way most laptops today are made. You'll have to be a real expert to be able to swap them successfully - even then success isn't 100%. Manufacturers will not take them back for an upgrade.

Furthermore, your laptop motherboard chipset will not allow for you to upgrade to a discrete GPU if you ordered it with the integrated card.

Unless you have a laptop with a separate graphics unit or an MXM slot, you won't be able to upgrade/replace it. Check your manual to see if they allow any upgrades. Few laptops today allow you to do so (the Alienware line being one of the very last) I know for sure that recent Dell laptops use the soldering style.

The only option you have left is to use an Expresscard-adpated graphics unit, but not yet. Maybe in the near future; right now external graphics through Expresscard is in the process of development/release.

There aren't that many for sale yet in the U.S., but if you're lucky, you can find an ASUS XG Station for sale somewhere (but it won't be cheap considering its around $300 for the dock alone). You just need to have an Expresscard slot. They're only offering the 7900GS and 8600GT (desktop card) for the dock so far, but from the looks of the design you might fit other PCI-E x16 graphic cards into it in the future.

However, because of the slower transfer bandwith through the ExpressCard port in comparison to the PCI-E x16 GPUS usually use, they will not perform nearly as well as built-in/native cards.

you can't change your video card in a laptop, as it's builtin. It's one of the downsides of a laptop.|||For a computer parts never ever buy cheap thing cause one thing can burn or destroy your computer for no reason.

What does it mean if the video card on motherboard went out on a laptop?

I'm trying to buy a laptop on ebay and the only problem with it is that the Video card on motherboard went out. What does this mean? How will this affect the use ?|||That means that they somehow managed to to break the graphics adapter on the motherboard. Chances are that there will be no display and even higher that it wont even work. Dont buy it. you'd need to buy a new motherboard or get it fixed.

Is downloading video cards from your laptop manufacturer free?

Is downloading any software update from your laptop or pc manufacturer whether its audio, chip set, or graphics free?|||You can't download video cards. May be you mean video card driver.

Yes, you can get them free from the manufacturer's website. That's why they call it " support".|||Generally speaking, yes, it will be free. There are of course some that will charge for nonessential upgrades or premium functions, but essential upgrades will mostly be free.

Where can i buy ati mobility radeon video cards for my laptop?

Laptop video cards are not upgradable in most cases.|||check out this site, they give you a sony vaio laptop FOR FREE!! i got mine last week and it's smokin'!|||Laptop video cards are not upgradable in most cases. Definitely NOT if you already have an integrated card like intel GMA series.

Anyone know much about laptop processors and video cards on dell inspirons?

I'm thinking of buying a dell inspiron 15, but am confused by the different options on the dell website!

I would prefer the faster processor (Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.1GHz, 800MHz, 2MB)) which comes with an integrated video card.

However, on reading info on the integrated and the upgraded version of the video card (256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330), dell informed me the integrated video card isnt suitable for Vista Premium or demanding programs.

Would the upgrade video card really make a difference? Does anyone own a dell inspiron and can give me a review?|||Do you play games? That would be the only reason to spring for the better video card. Well, games and autocad/video editing programs.

If you don't plan to play games or run autocad, then the integrated video card would suffice.|||Hi,

I would definitely for the better vid card, Vista really needs all the power it can get and plenty of ram as well.

I thought that you could fully configure the Dell machines so you could get a faster processor and a better vid card?

Can I add a new video card to my laptop computer?

I have an HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop. The video card is just not fast enough and dose not have as mush memory as I would want. Is it possible to put in a new video card.|||Since your graphics card is built into your laptop motherboard you would have to upgrade them both. I would not recommend install it yourself if you do choose this option as it requires that you disassemble the keyboard, screen and other parts of your laptop and the chances of damaging something are high. Have a professional do it instead.

Have you considered simply buying a new laptop? You can get a decent laptop for $600 these days and I believe the new motherboard/graphics card for your laptop would cost close to $200.|||Memory and video card are two different things. Yes, the video card has memory on it.. but it sounds like you are need more memory as in ram.

As far as a upgrading the video card; not without replacing the motherboard to one with a better built on graphics chip. This would probably cost around 285.00 at a local computer shop to do.

What you can do is upgrade your memory, also known as ram. Your laptop supports up to 2 GB of DDR2 4200 ( if that doesn't make sense to you, ask a tech friend to shop with you when you go get more ).

Vinny,

Qualified IT Consultant since 2001.|||it will be extremely hard to do this due to the small interior space of a laptop. u will have to find a specific card that will fit in your laptop and will probably have to buy from manufacturer. each laptop has a little bit different interior design making it difficult to buy and upgrade on your own. if you buy from manufacturer u can expect to pay a bit more... if this is a card then it is possible if it is integrated you wont be able to... i looked it up and this is a card so u need to find the specs (size) of the card and match it up with one on a site like ... www.newegg.com|||Buy a new laptop if you want a new GPU. Do all video cards use shared memory?

If not, then what is the best video card for laptop?|||Yes for the current high resolution graphic affect, most of the time your PC RAM will be shared by Video card, too. Look at the link below for the demo for bridging graphic cards (one of the best).

http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_qu…|||No, usually only integrated video uses the RAM to render. Integrated meaning it is built into the motherboard.

Dedicated graphics cards have their own memory and usually don't utilize much, if any of the system's RAM.

There are VERY few cases where high end laptops have switchable graphics, but the upgraded cards are proprietary only to that model (or series) of laptop, and that idea seems to have been abandoned a few years back. The only way to get a better graphics card is to buy another laptop.|||The GPU in a laptop cannot be upgraded. It is integrated and embedded into the motherboard, not removable or replaceable. You can upgrade the processor, RAM, and hard drive in a laptop, but not the graphics chip. You are stuck with the GPU it came with, period.

I need to replace my video card in my laptop, is there a difference between laptop cards and desktop cards?

I have a Dell XPS 1710 with a nVidia Geforce Go 7950 GTX card. It appears to be shot. I am currently shopping for a replacement but I am confused as to whether or not I simply shop for video cards as you would a desktop or are laptop/notebook cards totally different? I'm unsure what the motherboard is onboard the laptop but that would be easy enough to find out. Thanks to anyone who responds!|||I doubt you can upgrade video card for laptop as 99 percent are soldered in and integrated into the motherboard.

But check with maker to see for sure.|||Replacing video cards on laptops is one of the most difficult things to do. Obviously a pc video card would not work. Notebook cards are radically different. The only real way to upgrade it is to see if your current video card has slots for more video memory. Other then that, its going to be horribly expensive to install a new video card.|||I doubt its a separate component in your laptop. You might be looking at a new mainboard. I haven't been able to verify that however. Here is a review http://www.notebookreview.com/default.as…

check your warranty.|||Almost all laptop video cards are not upgradable at all. Desktop and laptop video cards are completely different and not interchangable. Your best bet would be to buy an entirely new laptop.|||contact Dell they used a proprietary format.

If you can not replace the video/graphics cards in laptops than why can you buy them?

I purchased 3 Toshiba Qosmio (2 G15's & 1 G35AV600) that all have bad video cards-I decided to try this after reading a forum where someone had a different upgraded video card installed and it never gave any trouble since (I wish I could find it again!). So anyone with advice on switching these cards I'd appreciate it very much.|||You can try to find an external video card using the express card slot.|||You have to find the exact socket, size, power consumption, and specs of a video card. Its almost impossible because they order the cards special from Ati or Nvidia. If you can find them, and everything is the same as the original (almost impossible to find especially if the computer is over a year old), then you can switch them....assuming they were not integrated. If they were integrated then they were built in and sodored to the Motherboard. You could not possibly take it off and put another on without damaging the motherboard and rendering it unusable. If it was a dedicated graphics card then you should be able to just unplug it from the socket, and plug in a new one. Again if its not exactly the same it could short the whole laptop. All you would have to do is unscrew the bottom, pop open the protective locks/casing under the screen, and carefully (and unstaticly) remove the MB. Good luck. There should be guides to opening the laptops online.|||STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO REPLACE VIDEO CARS IN LAPTOPS http://laptoprepairplaza.blogspot.com/20…

Try searching Intel's website for any driver updates. Check the sims2 website for any patches. My wifes 9700pro plays sims2 just fine, so certainly your more recent card could also.|||no video cards are either compatible or not. its a hardware thing you can't just make the video card accept 9.0c

Does it matter what kind of video card or RAM to use on a laptop?

I always thought you can use whatever kind of RAM or Video card you want. Just switch it out with your old. Does it matter speifically to the computer you bought?|||Laptops do not have video "cards", they have chips which are most often non-upgradable|||Neither is computer specific. When buying RAM you need to make sure your socket types match. Older laptops use DDR2 memory and newer ones use DDR3. That's really the only hurdle. Also, make sure you find out how much RAM you can upgrade to before your computer starts ignoring the rest. After that top end, it's a waste of money. This is usually anywhere from 8GB to 16GB. Laptop's use an integrated video card, which means the video card is a chip, much like the CPU, on the motherboard itself. This cannot be upgraded or changed out. Even if you had a spare PCI Express slot, you couldn't just slap in a new video card because it won't fit in the case.|||With Ram It Needs To be The Same Socket Type and made for laptops and type such As DDR3. It Should not mater on less your running a Mac if your Running Mac there is a good Chance you have to buy the ram From Them. Make Sure That You know the type of Ram And You Will Be All Set. Can i upgrade the video card in this laptop?

I have a Hp Pavilion dv7-6163US laptop with an integrated intel graphics chip which isnt much of a gaming video card. It has 6 GB RAM and a great processor so it can handle games in that sense just wanna know if the graphics card is upgradeable and if so which cards are compatible and might prove to be a good replacement

Thanks|||I really whish i could tell you yes ... technically there is a way but it takes a lot of wireing and cost 100$ without the card and it isnt portable.

Integrated graphics means the card is attached straight to your motherboard, its cheaper, faster (sometimes), causes less heat, but you cant change them and they slow down your computers overall performance because it takes CPU power.

Dedicated graphics can be switched out most of the time but cost more, and produce more heat. But they make your computer use less CPU power.

Heres that adapter link:

Best wishes mate.|||Laptop computers are popular with people of all computing habits, from casual users to hardcore gamers. As more media applications such as games and movies are used by laptop owners, many people feel the need to have the video card in their laptop upgraded so that they can run the latest media and games. If you have a laptop and want to upgrade the video card, you may be able to do so.

1

Contact your laptop manufacturer to determine if laptop's video card can be upgraded. Unless you purchase a high-end or gaming laptop, the video card is usually not upgradable because it is integrated directly into the motherboard of the computer. Higher-end and gaming laptops have discrete video cards that can oftentimes be upgraded if the laptop manufacturer chose to produce an upgraded model of the video card. If the laptop is unable to have its video card upgraded, you'll have to buy a new laptop to get an upgraded video card.

2

Purchase an upgraded video card directly from the manufacturer. Laptop video cards are specially designed and made by the laptop manufacturers and are generally available only from the manufacturers themselves. You may be able to find them on auction sites or from third-party dealers, but to ensure that the card works properly with your laptop model, you should go through your computer manufacturer.

3

Find out if the card is user-serviceable or not. If it is, you will be sent the part and can install it yourself by taking apart the laptop computer, removing the old video card and putting the new one in. If not, then you may have to pay an additional fee to have the laptop manufacturer send a technician to install the video card for you.

Can I take out the video card from my laptop and put it in my computer?

Is it possible to take out the video card from a laptop and put it in the computer? Or is the laptop video card and the computer video card way different? Are the video cards from the laptop and computer the same?|||No, this cannot be done. Video components are integrated into the laptop's main board, so there really isn't a "card." It's just a chipset that provides the video functions.

Would a computer shop be able to upgrade my laptops video card?

I'm considering buying a Toshiba e105 laptop. I want to have its graphics card upgraded after I purchase it. Would a computer shop be able to upgrade it for me? Is that possible?

Thanks!|||I would think not. Most laptops which come with graphics cards have special motherboards which have the graphics processor integrated into them. You might be able to increase the memory, or probably be able to change from, say and 7300 to a 7350 but I do not think you'd be able to change from a 7300 to a 9600.

There is also the problem with power supply - each laptop comes with a power supply that is just sufficient for what they've shipped it with. More powerful cards definitely need more power.|||yes|||No, since it's soldered into the motherboard, they probably won't. At best they might be able to get you a compatible motherboard with a better video card, that they can put in, but that involves replacing almost everything. It's unlikely that they'll even be able to do that, though...|||You're asking the wrong question. The question should be how much would it cost you to do it. The answer would be...around 500+ at that $$ you can buy a whole new computer with better specs than a lame Toshiba. Toshibas are as much waste of $$ as Macs, almost...Macs dominate the stupidity field. Get an Asus, or HP or Dell or Alienware or a real computer of that sort. Even MSI is good. If you have money get Lenovo or Rock.

See the parallel.|||Not possible. Laptop GPUs are directly integrated into the motherboard in most cases, though occasionally in the form of an actual card- but either way, it isn't compatible with a PC. You know, if you have an Office Max store near you, they will look at your computer and give you advice on what to get FREE OF CHARGE. All their stores do it here, so I would think they would do it everywhere - it's a big perk of being a customer there. :)

Good luck!

EDIT::::::: Sorry just realized it was a laptop... not sure you're gonna be able to do anything with it :o/ If you have a desktop you can use, the advice above will be of great help.|||GPU's in laptops are usually integrated into the motherboard, and are therefore impossible to change without specialized equipment, access to the GPU's themselves, and doing anything inside your laptop will most likely void any warranty or repair plan terms.

Furthermore, the graphics card you listed, the GeForce 9400GT, is a desktop graphics card. It isn't good for gaming anyway, and is considered an economy or standard class card. What you're looking for for a gaming card is a GeForce 9800GT+, or a GeForce GTX 750, 850, or 950.|||I dont think changing video cards for laptop is possible.

Video Card Upgrade in a Lenovo laptop?

I have a lenovo G560 laptop. I completely love it except for the graphics card. The windows experience score would be at 4.8 if it weren't for the video card dragging it down to 3.4. That or you can try third party Hardware specialists at a local story like Fry's electronics or what not.|||Well, you need to know whether the existing card is on-board. That means a GPU or CPU upgrade will require a completely new motherboard. But, if you have a compatible card slot and compatible parts, buy a new graphics card and insert it.

I think it is possible to use the old (on-board) and the new (slot) one together for better performance. I strongly recommend a nVidia GeForce 8 or 9 series for good gaming.|||You cannot upgrade your laptop's video card. Sorry. You'll have to buy an entirely new laptop.|||Mercuri is right.

external 3d cards are rare and expensive.

2. No. You need to buy a new laptop.

3. Yes. www.newegg.com|||PCI and PCI-E are for desktops, they will not work with a laptop. Laptops have display adapters (not cards) that are a part of the motherboard, they cannot be replaced without replacing the while computer.

Laptops are not built for games, and about any higher up PC can run GTA IV.

One more thing, its not just the graphics card that matters for games, its also the processor, bus, and ram. You would need to upgrade the whole PC.

My windows vista laptop's screensaver says it need a new video card, what should i do?

Laptop's graphic cards usually on-board so it makes (almost) impossible to upgrade it. If you know the specific model of your laptop, you should be able to research to find out what graphic card is used in your laptop so that you can find and install the graphic driver that is compatible to Windows Vista. Note that not all graphic card are compatible with Windows Vista.|||You will not be able to just swap in a new graphics card for your laptop. your laptop has an onboard graphics controller and it is soldered to oyur motherboard.

When we buy laptops we asume that they will do everyhting we want it to do. so my suggestion is, either think about buying a new laptop, or set the settings in vista to a lower setting. So instead of running areo try using the classic theme. this will aleviate oyur stressed graphics controller.

Also I suggest using a different screen scaver. the simple microsoft screensavers will do the job and they do not require an advance graphics card to run.

Can I trade my laptop video card?

My Toshiba Satellite A305 is a great laptop but has a terrible video card, I saw a video of an identical laptop with a much better video card. I want to know if I can send my laptop into Toshiba and have them upgrade the card to the other ones that they manufacture. I'm thinking this should work because they're both the same laptops. Is this possible?|||Errr, probably no at a reasonable cost.

The 'video card' is built onto the mobo of the laptop so what you'd be asking Toshiba to do is rebuild the works of your laptop with new bits.

It may fit in the same case or there may be different mountings in what look like 'identical' cases. So it may mean a new case too,

And if the display is different spec you'd need the top half rebuilding too.

Is it possible to improve my integrated video card on my laptop?

I have an integrated intel HD graphics video card on my Acer 5745. Most 3d games run pretty choppy. Is it possible to get an external video card slot for my laptop? If so, what am I looking at price wise? and While I have you here, what will a decent video card itself cost me?|||No, it's not possible. If you want a gaming laptop, you have to buy one.|||Unless you have mastered extremely delicate soldering skills, no, it is not possible.

Besides even if you did, the thermal efficiency would not match.

I recommend a Asus when it comes to gaming.

The GPU and fans are very powerful on their gaming systems.|||Sorry im not sure "/|||Typically laptops can't be upgraded GPU-wise. Overclocking them is risky because you risk burning out the main board. Unless it's specifically able to, usually the Acer lines have a (G) next to the model number for the ones that can be upgraded graphically. They use MXM slots, but it is RARE for a laptop to have that. I have an Acer 7520-5757 myself. So no unfortunately no way to improve the graphics itself...... However!!!

Acer laptops are NOTORIOUS for heat build up, mine was running nearly 100-110 degrees for GPU which is INSANE. If you're handy with small tools and careful with pins and stuff, and are capable of taking a laptop apart. Do this. Get some Arctic Silver (about $25 for a small tube, yea expensive but SOOO worth it, it last a long time too, depending how much you use of course) After you've peeled away the outer shell and are looking at the bottom, where the CPU and copper tube go to the GPU thing, careful with them. Then usually the GPU will have a thermal pad on it, little piece of plasticy looking thing. First clean off all the old thermal grease (usually the white cheap stuff) make sure the dies are shiny, then apply one good sized drop in the middle of the die on both the CPU and GPU, the GPU isn't really SUPPOSED to have thermal grease but I put some on anyway even with the thermal pad in the way, then make sure everything is snug and clean, you DON'T want any of that arctic silver lapping over the sides as the silver will create contacts with other parts and lets just say that's not good...... Once you've applied the arctic silver on both GPU and CPU dies, reinstall the copper tube assembly, this is what propels the heat from the GPU and CPU to the fan and pushes it out of the laptop. Clean the fan as well, might as well since it's already opened right? Careful as those blades break easy, use a soft toothbrush or something. Then basically put everything back together.

Download Speedfan by the way, nice easy way to monitor your temps.

I did that to my Acer and I literally went from 100-110 on STARTUP!! Down to 60-70, yea I was 105 normally on just sitting on the desktop, no games, no nothing, just looking at my desktop was 105 degrees, playing WoW was all kinds of choppy and went to 110-112. Did that and I idle at 61-62, still gets to about 80-90 if I'm playing WoW or something on it, but it's actually playable at 20ish FPS instead of the 5-10 I was LUCKY if I got before.

I HIGHLY recommend reapplying arctic silver for anyone with an Acer with graphics that run choppy, it won't make the GPU play more advanced games or anything but it will improve the cooling, and you will get some more FPS out of it. Don't expect to play a Crysis or BFBC2 or something, but playing WoW or other less graphic intensive games should run ALOT better.

If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, bring it a PC repair store and tell them that you just want them to put new arctic silver (make sure you tell them arctic silver) grease on your GPU and CPU. If you go in knowing what you want done, it's cheaper and easier, if you go in there like a customer they will want to diagnose and charge for this and that, and all you need is to get that arctic silver on, and I can almost guarantee GPU performance improvements.

Good luck!

these are 2 great laptops, but with just 1 problem.

which one delivers the best gaming experience (i.e: which one can run new games on max with good graphics and high fps "40~50")

the Sony Vaio VPCEB17FG, with and i3 2.13ghz 330m processor, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1gb DDR3

and the HP Pavilion DV6-2153ee with and i5 2.40ghz 520m processor, and an Nvidia GT230M 1gb DDR3

from the reviews and the benchmarks i saw, the ATI is at least 25% better than the nvidia since it also supports DirectX 11 and 5.0 shader (while the nvidia supports only DirectX10 and 4.1 shader), but the i5 processor is far superior than the i3 with its Turbo Boost which results in a max of 2.9ghz.

so i'm confused here....|||Just based on brand name alone, skip the HP. See below:

http://lifehacker.com/5524704/laptop+rel…

Yes, I know that doesn't answer your question.|||Neither one of those systems will be capable of running new games on 'max' with high FPS in all cases.

The Radeon HD 5650 is a better graphics card. However, the Core i5 processor is a faster processor.

In gaming overall the Sony system should be faster even though it has a slower processor.

In most games both of those processors will provide enough ummph to get the game going pretty good, the bottleneck between those 2 systems will most of the times come down to the graphics card. Since your target is gaming performance the Sony system will be your best choice because the GPU is better.

I don't know how to find out if my laptop video card can run games because the always say the desktop version. What is the equivalent to the GeForce GT 335m and how do you find out? I understand how to tell the better desktop card, so what is the difference?|||Desktops video cards are bigger and generally require more power....more powerful of course.|||What I do is. I goto WIKI.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_…

so many factors come in on these stats. the bandwidth, the shaders, but also the bus-width.

all the stats aren't in yet.

also, just check out 3dmark06 scores and Vantage scores for the gt335 and than compare them to desktop cards.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQKZdXmQq…

A 3dmark06 score of 6100. thats pretty good.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gamin…

compare it there, and it's like a 7900gtx, 1950xtx

so than do some more searching of other cards, and come across something like this....

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/486/…

and you have your answer. it's the equivalent to an xfx 8600gts XXX edition. which is a highly overclocked card.

so i usually go by 3dmark06 default score, which is 1280x1024 no AA.|||Desktop video cards are Tigers, laptop video cards are Cheetahs. They are both cats but do not mix well together even though they make their living the same way, they hunt.

You need to find websites that review laptop video cards. I did a quick search with Yahoo Search and found this site (http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeFo… which does a pretty good job explaining what your video card can do. If you do some more research I’m sure you could find even more sites full of revues of laptop products.

How do i check my computer's and laptops video card?

i need to buy sims 3. but b4 that i need to check my video card that if i have the latest one or the one which is compatable with sims 3. plz help me. how should i know which version i have?|||start > all programmes > accessories > system tools > system information.

Should give you system summery, if sound device not there.

go double click components > sound device..

It will tell you manufacture and it's specs.

By all right, person selling game should know off hand whether your PC will be compatible by brand name..

Can you replace the video card in an acer aspire one laptop?

or does the laptop even have a video card?|||No, you cannot replace it. The Aspire One, like most laptops and netbooks, has on board video, meaning that it is built into the motherboard. Technically, you could have it replaced but it would cost way less to buy a new laptop.

My son has an Aspire One and we have found out that you are really limited to what games you can play on it because of this. But then again, this netbook wasn't made with gaming in mind.|||Depends, if your laptop does indeed have a dedicated video card then the ultimate answer is usually yes you can. However, I have read that it is quite expensive and getting a better laptop with the card you want inside is simply cheaper.|||I don't know that particular model but almost no laptops have video cards. They have onboard graphics, which is just a chip built into the motherboard. You can't replace or upgrade it.

Video card: minimum RAM for gaming, and price range of low-end gaming laptops?

Im done trying to convince myself that my Dell Inspiron can support gaming. Im done trying to convince myself that Microsoft Flight simulator does not have the system needs of other normal gaming software. My QUESTION: what is the minimal video card MB capacity that can support computer gaming with maxed out texturing settings? My Dell Inspiron has a crappy 384MB videocard. Microsoft flight simulator recommends at least 500MB video card. some computers have 1000MB video card. I think I saw an HP laptop with a 1700 MB video card. Whats the minimum for decent performance, and whats the price range?|||Well, the problem here is that you're assuming the amount of video RAM has a direct relation to video card performance. This is NOT the case. You need a good, dedicated GPU to have good performance. The RAM does not matter all that much as it only helps when cranking up the texture details at high resolutions when you already have a power GPU. Those video cards that supposedly have over 1700MBs of video RAM are complete garbage for gaming as they simply share system RAM and have a piss-poor GPU. Your 384MB video card is also in this category.

You'll notice that typically there will be more to the minimum requirements than just the video RAM. Typically it'll say something like "vertex shader 2.0" or, even better, list specific models of GPUs that it supports (GeForce 7000 series, for instance)

Is the video card on a Satellite M645 laptop changeable?

My laptop has an Intel (HD) video card, I want to know if I can change it, and what type of video card fits this laptop?|||Unfortunately upgrading laptops are not as easy as upgrading a desktop, it's much more costly.

Laptops have integrated graphic cards. This means that your Satellite M645 graphic card is a chip on the motherboard. The laptop would need to be disassembled completely to get to the motherboard and then unsolder the graphic chip to replace with another chip

Upgrading a graphic card on a laptop is very expensive and not worth it. You are better off buying a new laptop. The cost of labor alone would be very high. Some new laptops are probably cheaper than what it would cost you to have the graphic card changed.|||Laptop video cards are usually unchangeable, and if its an intel one, I think your stuck then.

If I can add a video card to a laptop with an integrated video card?

I am currently looking to purchase the Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334, which has integrated video, my question is whether or not I can upgrade to a regular video card. I know very little about laptops and would like to find out more information before I make a decision. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. :)|||You can't add a real card such as a Nvidia 8800GT BUT, you're in luck, you can use mobile graphics.

Look for cards such as 8400GS mobile, 8600GTM, 8800GTM.

Better yet, take it to a specialist in person. He will help you the best.|||No.|||yea u can all a video card, when u add a video card your integrated one stops working |||Most laptops do not allow for a video upgrade other than adding more ram to the system for the video to use a little more (to the set limit). So get the specs for the laptop and enquire if there is a slot for adding a card or other way to utilize a different video display card.

|||I think you can`t. Most laptops with integrated video cards don`t have any space or slots for that purpose, but maybe you can choose a video card configuration, specially if you are buying it inline. You can make upgrades just if it already has a video card. If you necesarily need a video card, better choose another laptop. There are a lot of similar models that maybe do offer a video card.

Can my laptops graphics thing (not even sure if its a normal video card or what) be upgraded?

My laptop has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. I looked it up online to see what it was and it seems that something can be plugged into it to make it better or something? I always heard that you're stuck with what you originally bought when it comes to laptops. If that is upgradable, does this mean I can upgrade other things too? Sorry for lack of details but I couldn't exactly understand what the site was talking about.|||I wouldn't mess with it. Generally with notebooks as a general rule of the thumb, unless its ram, it will be hard or expensive to upgrade, or not possible at all. Like I wanted to do the same thing with my old laptop until I realized that with the amount of money I was going to spend to upgrade, I could easily just sell the one I had and use the same amount for the upgrade to buy a new really nice notebook that I'm happy with. And if you are in the market for a new notebook I'd recommend that you check out Apple's MacBooks. They are amazing machines, and the new ones have excellent graphics capabilities which is perfect for you now. so give apple.com a shot.

Hope you find what you need. Peace.|||No.

No video upgrades. You can't add anything to improve your video.

It would have been very helpful to list make/model of the laptop.|||Generally, no. Unless you have a VERY expensive, usually custom, laptop or one of the high end Dells the graphics card is not separate, it is physically part of the motherboard.

Upgrading anything on a laptop is awkward, fiddly, time consuming and always carries the risk of damaging something critical unless you know exactly what you are doing. Experience of switching a graphics card in a desktop will be of absolutely no value either.

In essence you are correct in your observation that "you're stuck with what you originally bought when it comes to laptops."|||no ---- it is not a desktop computer (which can be upgraded)

sorry

what is with the word thing i see it everwhere-- thing thingy ????? is it a slang word for something

Graphic cards or video cards for laptops???

hi,

Can I buy graphic cards and/or video cards for a laptop..."DELL Inspiron 6400"

Thank you!!!!1|||i have talked to the hp company and asked if their cards are upgradeable and they said no because laptops have them built in. dell is probably the same way. but know one is going to now the exact answer to this is dell. simply call thier support line and ask them this|||Most laptops can't have graphics cards upgraded/removed.

Can I buy or download video cards for laptops?

I have the Sims 2 Double Deluxe, and I'm unable to play it. My video card is outdated. I have Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family. Can I buy a video card in stores?|||Yes, you can buy.

Now a day many online portal available in India, You can buy online they also provide Delivery facility.

I know few website Which form sell online and provide Delivery facility.

My favorite portal is suggest you may like service.|||A graphics card is hardware. You cannot download hardware. Compare it to a car, you cannot download a car either. As for changing the graphics card of a laptop, this is not possible. If you require a better graphics card, you will need to purchase a new laptop which has a better graphics card. That is the reason why most gamers purchase a normal computer instead of a laptop, since you can change components in the future when required.|||No. In Laptops the video is built onto the mainboard. You have to completely replace the internal mainboard.

It'd be like getting the entire engine changed in a car.

Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II days

All generalizations are false, including this one.|||You can't download a physical piece of hardware, and sorry but laptop cards are mostly not upgradeable, especially Intel GMA|||Yes you can. You can also buy online

What is the difference between these video cards for a laptop...?

256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD

i am ordering a laptop off of dell.com, what is the difference? i'm guessing the first one is better because its more expensive. i plan on using this laptop for music pictures it has a web cam and my friends and i edit movies, nothing big though just like youtube vids(I'm 16). so how important is this component etc. thank you!|||Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD is onboard graphics and tends to be weak because it "borrows" RAM from your motherboard.

The Radeon is a dedicated graphics card and faster. It has its own video RAM.

*

*|||For editing movies, you would probably want the ATI card. It will outperform the Intel card by a longshot. It is worth the extra money.|||The top graphics card is "dedicated memory", which means that it has 256MB of memory that it uses only for the graphics card. The bottom is integrated, which means it processes graphics with shared memory. The top is better since it will always have memory to work from. If you aren't a gamer, you should go with the cheaper Intel card. :)

Need a laptop to watch movie & Engineering Software. Should I care about dedicated or Integrated Video card?

I don't play games. so is Dedicated or Integrated (shared) video card is important to me?

i only need it to check websites, Design by Civil Engineering programs, and watch movies.|||You'll be better with a dedicated. The CPU and GPU will work in tandem to process and render your designs, and newer GPU's have built in drivers which will boost some graphic software programs. The integrated won't be good for much beside watching HD video, and the CPU will be rendering everything by itself (no modeling for integrated GPU's).|||checking sites and watching moves doesnt need much.

but the engineering programs, if they are CAD (computer aided design) or simular you need something with a little more kick. and a good GPU (graphics processor) will be essential, and a good CPU.

the more power you have in the laptop, the quicker the processing of the data and when working with CAD will be much smoother and faster.|||Regardless of what you do, get the dedicated|||integrated video card

What is better to upgrade laptop peformance in terms of gaming? Upgrading RAM or Video Card?

i currently play World of Warcraft and it displays the graphics fine but the framerate isnt good at times. which is best to improve the lag/framerate issue? getting a new RAM or new video card?|||3 Main things you to upgrade for a good running gaming machine, you should have at least, an Intel Dual Core E6600 or higher, i would recommend the Quad 6600.

at least Nvidia 8800 Series

At least some good 2GB mated pair kit of RAM - Crucial Ballistix very cxheap at the moment.|||well can you list your system specs, because it could be your cpu. Also it could be your internet connection or the game server.|||u should increase RAM and Processor both + Video card for Laptop hardware configuration please visit

Best Regards

Shaun Marsh|||You cannot replace the video card in a laptop unless it's a laptop that was designed for upgrading, ie. alien ware, XPS etc, and that is not always possible.

RAM is a necessity.

I suggest lowering all of your settings to minimum, enable triple buffering, and if your video card is ATI use the OMEGA drivers rather than the official release.

I can play at 40 fps with a

Pentium M 1.6 Ghz

1.25GB Ram

Radeon 9000M

> 2 Gigs free on Main and Secondary drives.|||Normally a laptop has an in built video card, so you can't change it. So, more RAM.|||graphics card is probably more important, but it really depends how fast your processor is. 1-2gb ram should be fine for WoW.

If you have a slow or old processor no amount of RAM or improved graphics card will help.

What is the meaning of video card in the laptop?

If laptop has 128 shared memory then how can I increase if I have total 512 MB.Is video card related to games?|||Your video card is what sends the picture to the screen of your laptop. It is used by games (an all other programs). The more memory the video card has, the faster it can update the picture of the screen, which lets games play better.

If the card has 128 of shared memory, it means that it is taking 128 of the 512 in you computer, leaving you only 384mb to run programs. That is low for Windows XP.

You should be able to add additional memory to the laptop, changing it from 512mb to at least 1 GB (1024mb). Then once the video card takes its 128, you will still have a decent amount of memory left for running programs.

Check the manufacturer of the laptop's web site for information on what type of memory the laptop needs.

Is there anything like a "external video card" for laptops?

my dell inspiro 5160 has a small videocard (just 32 mb) and I want to upgrade It. Is there an easy way, like an external video card?|||Yes, although you will have to buy a docking station to get one. Docking stations have their own internal video card. However, docking stations are model specific so the card in the docking station for your machine may not be all that much better than the one you currently have.

Laptops are generally intended for business users. Business use is not normally all that demanding of the video system so it's an easy place for manufacturers to cut costs. Also, high-end video cards use a lot of power and generate a lot of heat. These are problematic for laptops where there is limited space for a cooling system and battery life is a significant consideration.

The exception to these general principals are the so-called workstation class and gamer laptops.

Workstations, in technical jargon, are high-end machines for engineering applications. These applications demand high end CPUs, video systems, large storage systems and lots of RAM. Workstation class laptops meet these needs at the expense of weight, heat and batter life.

Gamer laptops are basically workstation class laptops marketed to gamers. The frequently eschew the anti-glare coating on the display in order to get slightly better video quality but the internals are workstation gear all the way.

Workstation and gamer class laptops are much more expensive than main-stream business class machines. A good business class laptop typically runs in the $1,500 - $2,000 region. Workstation and gamer boxes can run 2 - 3 times that or even higher.|||Dude don't bother trying to upgrade a laptop. It's impossible unless you got a comp from a maker like VOODOO. And trust me, they are expensive.

|||sorry no such thing as a external video card|||Any off the bus video options for a laptop would be bottlenecked by the possible max speed of the connection used. USB, or Firewire are not nearly fast enough to process video any faster or better than what you already have in your laptop.

In a nut shell, you are out of luck.

What video card is better for a laptop?

Intel media accelerator x3100 or NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M (UMA). I want to play games, but i know both of these are low end video cards. Are they about the same quality? I know the 3100x saves power and creates less heat.|||Geforce by far|||to be honest, they re less than low end, they are budget integrated graphic card, which is worse than low end. both re juz as bad, do not expect to play crysis and bioshock on them, not so recent online games re fine, but definetely not Hellgate: London

if u re serious into having a gaming notebook, look for those that has dedicated graphic card, GeForce 8400M GT is good for budget user, for mid-end get GeForce 8600M GS/GT, if u re a hardcore gamer, get Radeon Mobility HD2600XT or GeForce 8700M GT

My mom wants to buy a good video card for the computer but how do I know which one is appropriate to work on my pc? Can I just buy any or does it need to be specific?|||Geforce Nvidia 220 GT =) it's good for you|||Hi,

You need to make sure you're talking about a Desktop Computer here and not a laptop... If it's a relatively new computer then it should have should either have a built-in graphics card or a PCI-Express x16 slot (or sometimes both)... most graphics cards are PCI-Express x16 and will fit in... please do not attempt to do this yourself, take it to a computer store and have someone advise you one which one you should have....

By the way don't pay over $200 for your card, sims doesn't need that much graphics power. ATI HD series or Nvidia 8800 or sumthing would be reasonable.

Can you update a laptop's video card and processor?

Hi:

I am thinking of upgrading an '01 laptop (desktop replacement notebook). The processor is Pentium 4, and the video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. Are there any easy ways of upgrading to a better card and processor, or I just have to stick with them?|||You'll have to stick with them. And with this notebook, you won't be able to play newer videogames, not even the ones made in 2002 (i think).

Does the OCZ 17" Gaming DIY Laptop Come With Video Cards?

I'm on the market for a new gaming laptop so my first instinct was to go to Alienware I assumed that would be the easiest way to get a good laptop. However the cost is pushing me to the DIY laptop option that I think would be better in the long run. I've found a good DIY laptop but as I am new to building laptops I'm confused. What video card should I buy for my laptop?

I have a Toshiba m45-s359 laptop and am looking for a compatible L&T capable video card with 32 MB of video ram (I could settle for 16 MB if that's all that is available).|||I'm not positive, however I don't think you can up-grade the video in that model. Your video card is built onto the motherboard and when I checked the specs I didn't see any open ports for video cards.|||Yes, check with Toshibas website to see if you can upgrade the video...they would say if so..or browse your owners manual.

Is it possible to replace the video card on a laptop hp dv2025nr?

I have a laptop hp dv2025nr, and i would like to know if it is possible to change the video card... I also want to know if the computer will play game(like world of warcraft) faster if i add more memory.

My current settings are:

HDD: 100GB

Memory:1G

Processor: AMD Turion 64x2 (1.6ghz

Video card: Geforce 6150

Thx for your help.|||the nvidia GeForce 6150 is a shared memory series meaning its soldered onto your mother board. You can't change it out but you can change your bios settings to allow more of your RAM to be allocated towards gaming. If you're running Vista, turn aero off. That may help but even in the HP dv9000 series with the same card but 559mb it's still not all that great in 3D gaming. Why is it that the laptops today sold in best buy, etc have bad video card? Is it worth buying one?

I've been hearing people talking about cheap laptops at best buy, circuit city, and etc... with Nvidia 8400 graphics cards for the price of 800 dollars or less. But I don't' think that Nvidia offers those cards anymore. Because the last time I checked, for a good 700-800 dollars, they have a Integrated Nvidia 7150 video card or less for the price. Am I the only one noticing that? I don't want to spend 1000 dollard on a laptop with a Nvidia 8400 GS graphics card. Because at the price, I can get a desktop with better specs with a cheaper price. But I really need a laptop for college, a little gaming, but mainly school work. I never buy stuff online with credit card or stuff like that.(that's just me), So should I just go ahead and buy a laptop with the Nividia 7150 graphics card they offer in stores?? or does any1 else have a better idea. (Best answer for 10 points). Thanks.|||Of course Nvidia offers those cards. They offer the 9 series which is the same as the 8 series, but just more energy efficiency. And the 8400M GS is still a decent card.

Of course, the best deal is ALWAYS on the internet. Considering you don't like shopping online, then buy the one from the store. But check out this one as it has HD 2600XT (which is better than 8400M GS) for a price of 1000 dollars which I think it's a good deal.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?…

But with 7150 video card you should be play games like CS 1.6, WOW stuff like that. It is sufficient for video editing also.

So the choice is yours.

EDIT: So this guy got mad and sent me an email. Basically he is telling me that it's a good deal. Well yea, it is, but for gamers like him probably. Considering the following:

1. 4GB will not make any difference with 3GB

2. a 17inch laptop would make it difficult to carry around and

3. 8800M GTS is for gamers

What's the point of getting this laptop for SCHOOL?

I am also a college student, and I understand what the asker needs.

yea and I do apologize for not digging deep enough. I was writing this at 12:00 in the night so I wasn't able to concentrate very well. It is a good deal, but just not a good deal for students like us. That's why i would still consider it to be a rip off.|||Get the laptop, it has a one year warranty and you can always get the extended warranty|||I think if you shop around online you will find laptops with better graphics cards that are under $1000

Unforturately i don't think the 7150 card will be useful with cames at all. Generally with nvidia card numbers, the first number denotes the series or generation of the card. And the second number denotes the level the card is at. Now the x2xx card (eg 7200) is a buget card used in systems that don't go any gaming except maybe like the sims, or something from a long time ago. So i can't imagine what the 7150 would be like.

If you want to play games, your gonna have to go for at least an 8400M, or better yet an 8600 or 9500. For instance the DELL XPS M1530 is a good laptop for games, it has an 8600MGT. However, its gonna cost you around $1500USD to get that.

You might be better off getting a really cheap laptop and then a getting a high powered desktop for gaming.|||Actually i bought my Gateway 6860-FX from best buy for 1250.00 and it comes with the 8800GTS 512mb Nvidia card set in it. Also came with Vista 64, 4 gigs of Ram and 320gig hard drive. tis only weak point was the 1.8gHz processor. But that was an easy upgrade to the t9300 (or x9000 if you have the money) and i added another 320gig hard drive to it for a pretty massive storage capacity for a laptop.

For under 2K i ended up with a pretty beefy rig for a laptop, not top of the line like a Sager, but i also didnt pay 5K for the system.

As far as paying more for a laptop than a desktop and getting less goodies... welcome to the club. We are always going to pay more for lesser hardware. Its the price we pay for mobility.

I would love to be sporting a 2 gig Geforce x280 SLI set up with a QX9775 processor and 8 gigs of ram... but unfortunatly it would run in excess of 250 degrees in a laptop and fry itself (or boil my blood as i used it)

If you shop around for a laptop you can get a pretty good system like the 6860 and do most everything you could want with it. And not really break the bank... But you cant have everything... our thermal budget is simply too tight in a laptop.

If your wanting the best of both worlds your either going to have to fork out 5K for a Sager, or your going to have to get a laptop for mobility and a desktop for gaming and high demand applications.

A good rule of thumb is your going to get about 4 times the return on your money with a desktop vs a laptop. My 1900 i spent on my rig (the laptop, after the upgrades i did), would have bought ALOT more power in a desktop, but i wouldnt exactly be able to carry that with me where ever i go.

EDIT:

At below poster... yeah, except the 17in (higher resolution)screen, vista 64, a full 4 gigs of ram, and the better graphics card. For 150.00 over the 6850... thats a great deal. Dig a bit deeper next time.

Video Cards for Laptops?

I'm looking to buy a new laptop. And I've been told you cant have a video card for a laptop. Is this true? And if not what kind of video card should i get?|||laptops do not have video cards that you can change. this is true 99 per cent of the time.

Why does newegg.com sell video cards for laptops i thought you couldn't change it in a laptop?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

PA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=video…|||It can be changed in some high end laptops, just not most.|||It depends, but for most laptops you can't. If your a really patient, careful person, then you can replace the videocard (as long as it's compatible). But generally, no you can't replace them, except for very few. But if your a gentle person, then yes you can replace/change one.
