Do you need to replace the motherboard on a Dell Studio 15 laptop to replace a video card?

Our computer has been giving beep codes (1 long, 2 short, then 6 quick beeps in a higher pitch). We took the computer to a local specialist and he recently told us the problem is the video card, but that we need to replace the motherboard? Is that right?|||Υup!

   |||Most laptop units are one solid piece. If you would just replace the video card, you would have to unsodder the original, make sure the new card is compatible with that brand, then resodder it. The best answer is, don't do it yourself. Have a trained professional attempt this task due to the mid to high level of technical experience necessary for such a feat.|||It sounds to me like a memory issue. Usually a non experienced tech will blame the motherboard if he cannot diagnose the problem. In case you want to pay close to the price of the computer to replace it this will fix any problem!|||You don't believe the technician. Go to the Public library and ask for a "Sam's Photofact" for your computer the read what it says about assembling that computer. If they don't have that Photofact, contact Howard Sam's, publisher.|||If its integrated video is defected, then you ship the laptop off to Dell, period.|||yes
